Alfred Othmany Magehema is founder and Director General of Young Tanzanian for Community Prosperity (YTCP), a non-governmental organization that improves the standard of living of the people by motivating the community on environment, agriculture, education, entrepreneurship and youth life skills. He has a Masters in Agro-Environmental Management from Aarhus University, Denmark. He was also chairperson of Environmental Watch Association of Tanzania (EWAT), an environment-based organization at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) where he pursued B.Sc. in Environmental Science and Management since, 2009. Alfred was the best student for his degree programme in his first and second years of study at this university.
Alfred has been assuming various leadership roles in different capacities. He was both the General School Secretary and General Secretary of United Nation Club at Kibaha Secondary School in 2008/2009. He was an academic coordinator at SUA from 2010. His volunteering experience starts in 2004 when he was an active voluntary dispensary attendant at Kibaha Secondary School until 2006. In the same year and school, he became a disciplined and good citizen student of the year.
Alfred has been participating in various conferences and providing speeches in and out of the country including those organized by the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sport (MIYCS) and United Nations Volunteers (UNV-Tanzania). In October, 2014, he was requested to present a paper on “Youth and agriculture in Africa, a case study of Tanzania” at the workshop on Global Organic Agriculture organized by organic Denmark in Aarhus, Denmark. In October 2011, he was nominated by MIYCS and UNV-Tanzania to attend the Southern Africa Conference on Volunteer Action for Development in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he presented a paper; ‘The role of youth in community-based volunteering’. Previously, in October 2010, Alfred had an opportunity to present before His Excellency Dr. Jakaya M. Kikwete, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania on matters relating to contribution of YTCP in the Tanzania’s social-economic development.
